ANNUAL CONFERENCE & TRADE SHOW

CULTURAL TOUR

This year, the BCWWA Annual Conference & Trade Show is hosted in Whistler, BC, located in shared traditional territories of the Sk̲wx̲wú7mesh and Lil’wat Nations. We encourage delegates and industry professionals to take a moment to visit the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre, meet with community members and learn about the past and current histories of First Nations communities who have been stewards of this land since time immemorial.

As part of our conference programming, there will be an organized tour of the cultural centre and an opportunity to be part of the welcome ceremony held by cultural ambassadors.

SQUAMISH LIL'WAT CULTURAL CENTRE TOUR

Visit the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre in Whistler’s Upper Village for an hour-long guided tour of the museum by a cultural ambassador. The tour reviews artifacts and hears stories to give an overview of the past and present way of life of the Squamish and Lil’wat peoples.

If you cannot make the organized tour on Sunday, delegates can attend a regularly scheduled tour at the cultural centre during the week, which runs Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Please note that the cultural tour is not eligible for Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

FIRST NATIONS WELCOME

We invite all delegates to join us for a special welcome by cultural ambassadors from the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre. We hope you join us as we start the day in acknowledgement and reflection of this conference taking place on the shared traditional territory of the Squamish Nation and Lil'wat Nation in which Whistler resides.

The cultural ambassadors come from either the Sk̲wx̲wú7mesh or Lil’wat Nation, who have graduated from a 14-week Indigenous Youth Ambassador Program. Youth, not only gain front line experience and certifications but also gain or expand on their cultural knowledge, giving them pride in themselves, the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre, their families and their Nations. Cultural Ambassadors are happy to welcome you all to the traditional territories of both the Sk̲wx̲wú7mesh and Lil’wat Nations.
